Bella

Bella is a considered a Foreign movie but in reality it was filmed in New York in 2006, and it is entirely in English with some bits and pieces of Spanish which highlights how the United States has become a melting pot.
The movie then tries to give a deep meaning to life by starting with the adage “if you want to make God laugh make plans” since most of the movie talks about the unexpected turns that life can take when one least expects it. The two main characters José (Eduardo Verástegui) and Nina (Tammy Blanchard) are impacted by life’s surprises as José losses a soccer contract after being charged for involuntary man slaughter, and Nina receives the unexpected news of her pregnancy.
This movie is not one to uphold to the expectations of romanticism because in reality José’s and Nina’s relationship never transcends the friendship stage, but it indeed inspires people to help each other out in tough circumstances.
‘It talks about pain, family values, redemption, and forgiveness’, said Eduardo Verástegui Bella’s producer and actor.
The movie touches on sensitive subjects like abortion, a decision with which a lot of single mothers are face with. Bella might be controversial on that respect because it seems to take a side that a lot of people might identify as religious, but it also sheds lights on the potential adoption has for helping families and single aspiring parents. Bella who turns out to be Nina’s first born, and José’s adopted daughter who brings life and happiness to the once saddened José.
